The original chimney for the Park Inn Hotel had deteriorated because of the carbon monoxide gases that had been moving through it. Metal strapping was installed to prevent sections from falling out. In this photograph, it is easy to see that the mortar has failed. When it was dismantled, contractors were able to remove the original brick without tools because most of the mortar had turned to powder. During the roofing project, the brick was removed and stored, and the chimney was rebuilt using a standard size brick in a color to match the original. The original brick was then used to replace broken brick during the repointing project.
